Natural teeth aren’t necessarily as white as TV commercials suggest. It’s unfortunate that such an image has given rise to the misconception that white teeth are the embodiment of peak dental health, while any teeth with a hint of yellow—which is well within their natural hue—are often seen as unsightly.

Let’s start by giving you a straight answer: “No, they can’t.” Unlike natural teeth, dental implants in New Albany and elsewhere are built from inorganic materials. These include the titanium-based tooth root and the composite or metal crown. The dental crown itself has high resistance to acids that otherwise eat through enamel with ease, and… Continue reading Can Dental Implants Get Cavities? Understanding Implant Care and Longevity

Modern cosmetic dentistry treatments are designed to last, but nothing lasts forever. Even if you’re strict about maintaining good oral hygiene, veneers will eventually lose their hues, and porcelain crowns may degrade due to wear and tear. Even dental implants, which most people believe can last forever (which isn’t entirely wrong), can start failing after… Continue reading Understanding the Longevity of Cosmetic Dentistry

Dentists would love nothing more than the sight of a full set of healthy teeth. Unfortunately, most of the time, they see teeth riddled with problems, including a couple of missing teeth. Thanks to modern solutions like dental implants, they can enjoy such a sight, even among adults who can no longer regrow their natural… Continue reading Determining When Dental Implants Are Necessary

For the longest time, humanity believed that white teeth were the epitome of dental health. If this wasn’t true, why did the ancient Egyptians use ground pumice paste and the Romans use urine as natural remedies? Life in ancient times must have been interesting. Fortunately, we’re long past those peculiar, if not ineffective, natural teeth… Continue reading Safest Teeth Whitening Techniques Used by Dentists

The terms “cosmetic dentistry” and “restorative dentistry” are often used interchangeably. One reason is that they share most of the problems they address, ranging from missing or broken teeth to discoloration. On that note, they more or less use the same solutions, from veneers to dental implants. However, that’s where their similarities end. Even though… Continue reading Comparing Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry: Advantages of Cosmetic Dentistry

FAQ

There can be many signs which indicate the need for a root canal on one of your teeth. Lasting hot/cold sensitivity, swelling in the gum tissue, a draining abscess in the mouth, or pain when biting can be indicators that the nerve inside the tooth is damaged and needs to be removed. Contrary to many patient beliefs, the roots of the teeth remain intact, but the nerve inside the crown of the tooth and the tooth roots is removed alleviates the associated pain. A dental crown is typically placed over the tooth after root canal therapy which protects the tooth and allows the patient to use the tooth normally.

Dental Implants are a great solution for missing teeth and are rapidly becoming more and more affordable. It is important to note, however, that even though and implant and crown isn’t a real tooth, they must be cared for in the same manner as your natural teeth. This includes attended regular cleanings and exams at our office, brushing, and flossing. If you are interested in an implant, first a consultation would take place and a 3D scan of your jaws will be taken to determine adequate bone for placement. In some cases, a bone graft is needed to get the desired width to accommodate an implant. On surgery day, the dentist will make hole in slightly increases sizes and then place the implant. The implant would then take 3-4 months to integrate into the bone and become solid. Once the dentist determines your implant is ready to be restored, an impression is taken and an abutment and crown are fabricated by the lab. Once ready, the dentist screws your crown and abutment into the implant. The overall process can be lengthy, but it is necessary to ensure the greatest chance for long term success.
Yes! Most people are familiar with Invisalign clear aligner orthodontics. In many cases, this a suitable alternative to traditional bracket and wire braces. The process begins with taking a scan or impression of your upper and lower teeth. If the plan is acceptable, a series of clear, rigid, plastic trays are made and then fitted onto the patient. Patients will wear each set of trays for 2 weeks at a time, visiting the dentist every 3-5 sets of trays to monitor progress. The trays require much self discipline and must be worn 22 hours a day. Until recently, the prevailing view assumed lorem ipsum was born as a nonsense text. “It's not Latin, though it looks like it, and it actually says nothing,” Before & After magazine answered a curious reader, “Its ‘words’ loosely approximate the frequency with which letters occur in English, which is why at a glance it looks pretty real.”
